Becoming my Mom

This is the day my mom became my mom and the beginning of the wildest journey I have ever taken. With ups and downs and twists and turns, my life started out excitedly which set the tone for many years to come. My birth story had always been a story that was retold every year without fail until I was old enough to tell it myself. My mother’s water broke at the stroke of midnight and 49 minutes later I was in her arms, what happened in between was an exciting whirl of miracles that were brought about by My father and a good friend who happened to be a highway patrolman for the state of Florida. No doctors were found in the making of this story.
For years my mom would ask anyone who was even remotely interested in writing to write a poem on my birth story, well, because she thinks I am a legend, I don’t know about all of that but after hearing her begging for years upon years, one year on the stroke of midnight on June 22nd I started writing and to my own disbelief 49 minutes later I have this poem:
The Midnight ride of Dallas Jeanne
Written by DallasJeanne
'Twas the midnight ride of Dallas Jeanne,
Under the night sky a moonlit gleam.
The drive was wild no time to lose,
Which Lamaze breath should she choose?
The highway merged to find a friend,
Who escorted them to the end.
The baby came as quick as thee,
No doctor came where could he be?
A baby's cry in a parking lot,
A father reached and she he caught.
A laugh, a shout, "it's a girl!"
A choice of names began to swirl.
In less than an hour she came to them,
A gift from God to say amen.
'Twas the midnight ride of Dallas Jeanne,
Her sweet life ahead all to be seen.
Now it was about 1 am by the time I finished rereading it, and of course crying over it, and that was much too late to call my mom and read it to her, so I had to wait till morning, and I honestly don’t think I slept a wink that night. I was much too excited, first of all that I had done what she had been asking me to do for ages but the miracle that I wrote it in the exact time it took for me to be born from the moment she went into labor till my sweet cry could be heard in the parking lot of that Florida hospital.
