Artist Statement
When I was in sixth grade we were given the task of illustrating around our photo what we wanted to be when we grew up. I drew an artist easel. That was the first time I realized how deeply my love of art went.
I find joy in taking graphite, paint or clay and crafting a unique work of art, forming something out of nothing. Watercolor is my favorite medium because it is always full or surprises. It is hard to control and flows across the page with wild abandon and a free spirit. While this can pose a challenge when you have a specific vision in mind, it has also led to many happy accidents and beautiful discoveries over the years. Watercolor is therapeutic, fun and surprising.
Sculpting is close to my heart as well, taking earth and squishing it into something beautiful is spectacular and exhilarating. I create as an outlet as well, life is not always blissful. I find that when I turn my heartache into art I get a particular sense of accomplishment and cathartic release. I can pour my emotions onto the page and then let them dissipate into the universe. Life is a journey, what you make along the way is what matters, what makes you your best self.
As a teacher, student and therapist, I know the healing and spiritual power of art. My life goal is to share that power with everyone I come in contact with.
